Thinking
of getting a tattoo?.............. NERVOUS?
Make
sure you have eaten before you get a tattoo. An empty stomach
combined with nerves can lead to dizziness, or even fainting.
Don't
resort to Dutch courage, alcohol thins the blood and can cause
the fresh tattoo to bleed unnecessarily. The same goes for painkillers.
WHICH
TATTOO?
What do you want from a Tattoo, mostly decoration, or mostly
memory? How visible do you want your tattoo to be? What kind
of tattoo suits you?
Make
sure you have considered the implications of a tattoo you want
carefully. Every tattoo needs time to heal in which it is not
Submerging it in water, keeping it out of the Sun, scraching,
or picking the scab.
PAIN?
You will receive an anaesthetic spray to numb the skin, so the
pain is in most cases minimal, also the process is so quick
that it will be over with in a second.
Healing
Process of a Tattoo
After
your Tattoo is complete we will affix a bandage. In approximately
2 hours you are to remove the bandage and wash gently. It is best
to use an Anti-microbial soap. While washing be sure to clean
surface of tattoo with hand only, do not use a washcloth. Use
luke warm water, in order to melt off any blood that is starting
to dry on the tattoo. Pat the Tattoo dry, and apply Bacatracin
Ointment, in a thin layer massaging it into the tattoo. Do Not
glob ointment on.
At
this point it is OK to leave the bandage off, unless you have
tight clothing on the area of the tattoo, or you are doing something
that will dirty the tattoo, then it is required to cover your
tattoo with a Non-Stick Bandage, please be sure that it is Non-Stick,
Non-Stick Bandages have a clear plastic coating over it to avoid
the bandage from getting stuck on the tattoo. You may also use
Saran Wrap, this will keep the moisture in and keep your clothes
from rubbing against the tattoo. When you go to bed at night,
we recommend bandaging it for the first 5 nights, this way the
tattoo will Not dry up overnight. Apply the Bacatracin at least
6 times daily. You will need to apply it as many times as it takes
to keep it moist, once again in a thin layer Not heavy, you don't
want to suffocate the tattoo.
If
you can, it is best kept uncovered and getting air for at least
half the day. Continue with the Bacatracin for 5 Days, and then
switch over to a moisturizer for the following week, basically
a white Skin Cream such as Keri Lotion, Lubriderm, or Vaseline
Intensive Care. Any brand name will do just do Not use any moisturizing
lotions that have perfumes or fragrances in them. Do Not use Bacatracin
for longer then 5 days, any longer will affect the healing process.
After the first 5 days you are Not to bandage any more. When Showing
wash over the tattoo gently, a little soap and warm water. Yes
the Tattoo will Peel and get itchy this is just part of the healing
process. If you do as we have said here, your Tattoo will heal
fast and look Great. If you let it Dry-up then you will get scabs
on the Tattoo, if this does happen, just let the scabs fall off
naturally. Do Not pick any scabs; with the scab you will pick
a piece of the Tattoo off.
Keep
Tattoo Out of Sun for 2 Weeks. Be sure to cover tattoo in when
in direct sunlight for the first two weeks, after this it is best
to use Sun block whenever in extensive sun, this will prolong
the life of your tattoo. No, Sun block is NOT good to use during
healing process, Only after it is Healed.
Do
NOT Submerge in Water - No baths or swimming for at least 10 days.
Showering is fine, just wash over tattoo gently - But DO NOT Soak
tattoo while healing, especially Do Not get Salt or Chlorinated
water on it, this will effect the colors and healing.
Your
Tattoo May appear Red around it - this is OK the skin is just
a little bruised. If it goes on past the 2 week healing period,
stop down and let us take a look so we can direct you as to what
you are doing wrong.
Your
Tattoo may be soar, like a sunburn during the healing period -
this is OK. Especially in areas such as the ankle, This area tends
to take a bit longer to heal and may swell a bit due to the constant
pressure on the ankle from just walking around. It is recommended
that you raise your leg when relaxing.
If
Small Pimples or a rash forms around tattoo - This means that
either you are allergic to the ointment that you are using on
the tattoo, or you are using too much ointment - 90 % of the time
it is that you are using too much ointment and suffocating the
skin. This rash is called Prickly Heat, Its no big deal - Just
stop using the ointment and spray tattoo area with rubbing alcohol
3 times daily - this will dry it up in a few days. If it does
continue, come down and let us take a look, we know best.

Thinking
of getting pierced?.............. NERVOUS?
Make
sure you have eaten before you get pierced. An empty stomach combined
with nerves can lead to dizziness, or even fainting.
Don't
resort to Dutch courage, alcohol thins the blood and can cause
the fresh piercing to bleed unnecessarily. The same goes for painkillers.
AFTERCARE?
Everything used in the process of the piercing is completely sterile,
so there is no chance of infection . The aftercare is up to you.
Make sure you never touch your new piercing with dirty hands,
treat it like an open wound.
Clean it with salt water and diluted tea tree solution (tea tree
is an essential oil with antiseptic qualities, available at any
herbalists or most chemists).
Weeping will occur, it is part of the healing process. This can
lead to dry crusts forming around the entry and exit sites of
the new piercing- do not turn these deposits into the piercing
channel as they can damage the new tissue forming there.
By following the aftercare instructions given to you by the piercer,
you will minimize any risk of infection. If you think you have
a problem, please come to see the piercer. Do not remove the piercing
yourself as this could lead to further infection.
Piercings
can take up to a few months to settle down entirely, every piercing
is different, as is every person.
Once the healing process is complete, you can change the standard
piercing jewellery out an wear the jewellery of your choice. There
is a vast range of unusual jewellery available, check out our
collections!

Healing
Process of a Piercing
The
healing process is divided into two parts. During the initial
healing phase, the piercing must epithelialize -form new skin
cells along the inside of the piercing, to protect the body from
the foreign object. This process usually takes 6 to 8 weeks, unless
the body rejects the jewelry.
The
healing process may also be delayed if the piercing is fitted
with jewelry of inappropriate design, gauge, or diameter/length
. If the piercing is migrating or rejecting, it is in a continual
state of non-healing. During the initial healing phase. The piercing
is open to infection and disease transmission - thus daily cleansing
is essential. The healing phase is characterized by an off-white,
sticky discharge of plasma which dries to a crusty formation around
the piercing entrances. There may be slight redness around the
holes, swelling immediately around the piercing, and some tenderness;
these symptoms should steadily subside during the first few weeks.
During the second and third month, the piercing may feel tight
around the jewelry. The entrances of the piercing should start
to round inwards, much like a donut hole. This indicates that
the piercing has formed its epithelium; the new skin around the
inside of the piercing. The newly formed skin can easily be dislodged,
so you should not force the jewelry to rotate without first applying
a proper cleaning solution and warm water. The piercing may need
to soak in warm water to allow the skin to expand so that the
jewelry can be rotated. If you plan to keep your piercing, do
not remove your jewelry for any length of time during the healing
process. If a jewelry change is needed due to a metal sensitivity
or dimension concerns, an insertion taper should be used to keep
it open. Some jewelry switches can be executed by pushing the
old jewelry out with the new jewelry.
The
second phase of healing involves seasoning or toughening of
the newly healed tissue, so that it is the same as the skin outside
the piercing. Most body piercings require at least a year or two
before they can be left empty without the risk of growing closed.
After the piercing has toughened, it would probably not grow closed
if jewelry is not worn for a length of time, but it may shrink
considerably, in which case stretching with an insertion taper
is required to reinsert the jewelry.
KELOIDS
Keloids
are thick, puckered, itchy clusters of scar tissue that grow beyond
the edges of the ~ wound or the incision. They are often red or
darker in color than the surrounding skin. Keloids occur when the
body continues to produce the tough, fibrous protein known as Collagen
after a wound has healed. Keloids can appear any where on the body.
They appear more often in dark skinned people than in those with
fair skin. The tendency to develop keloids lessens with age. No
matter what approach is taken, keloids have a stubborn tendency
to recur, sometimes even larger than before. Please
take care in changing your own jewelry as it can easily be scratched,
bent or stripped.
Warning
For health reasons, jewelry may not be returned or exchanged.
